Deposit rates in Russia are losing their relevance as an option to generate income

Why deposit rates in Russia are decreasing

Deposit rates in Russia continue to decline. Segment analysis showed that they are now record low, and the downward trend will continue in the future. The annual interest rate for deposits in rubles is 5%. If we look at the real data taking into account inflation, it turns out that the profitability is even lower than the specified percentage. For example, the owner of a deposit of 300 thousand rubles will be able to earn about 12 thousand rubles. The current situation is not conducive to the demand for this option of preserving and increasing capital.
According to the analysis of ten large credit companies, at the beginning of this year the average maximum rate on deposits in national currency was less than 6% per annum. As experts note, such figures are a historical minimum. Only for this year the rate has decreased by 12 basis points, and the decrease will be observed in the future. According to the forecast, a decline to 5% is possible by the end of the current period.
Bank deposits have not been popular for a long time as a way to generate income. Activity on stock markets is relevant for more consumers, as there is an opportunity to use various instruments and mechanisms, which will allow not only earning, but also bypassing inflation risks.
To date, the most profitable in terms of profitability experts allocate a deposit in rubles, designed for six months. In other cases, the rate will be less than 4.5%.
Not surprisingly, many users prefer investment accounts, deposits in currency or real estate. Unfortunately, the Russian market can not provide favorable conditions, which affects its popularity. In addition, this segment is still quite young, and can not provide the proper level of stability.

Deposit rates in Russia

Analysts hope that the economic situation this year will be better than last year. This will allow attracting more investors to mutual funds, which are considered highly profitable. As compared to deposits, it is more profitable to buy shares and bonds.
Decrease in annual rates significantly slows down the development of the deposit segment. If previously passive investors could earn on investments, now it is quite problematic to do so. Therefore, in order to increase their capital, people need to study different mechanisms of investment and choose the best option in terms of profitability.
Bitcoin had the highest rate of return last year. Investments in Bitcoin yielded 80%. However, when working with cryptocurrency, one should consider its volatility. A vivid example is the almost halving of the cost of bitcoin, which happened in 2018.
