G Pay transformed into Google Wallet
In 2018, Google renamed its payment services, and since then they have been known as Google Pay or G Pay. However, in 2022, the developer decided to make changes again, if not in the structure, then in the name, and now the applications are called Google Wallet.
This service is an Android alternative to the service for iOS Apple Pay and is a mobile wallet. At the same time, Google Wallet is used for online payments, and shopping in Play Market and serves as a tool for contactless transactions in physical stores. In addition, the service supports loading tickets and travel cards, which is extremely convenient for quick checkout. In addition, Google promises that in the near future it will be possible to put an identity card, a digital key, and other important documents in the app.
Now the Google Wallet service can be used by most owners of Android devices. It has replaced the familiar Google Pay, which will soon be unavailable. However, there are exceptions, for example, in the U.S. and Singapore you can use the two applications, and in this case, Google Pay only serves as a tool to send payments to a close circle of people. In India, Google Wallet will not be available; Google Pay will continue to work there, although its functions will be similar to Wallet.
It should be noted that the first product with the name Wallet from the corporation appeared in 2011. At that time, Android devices became available for contactless payments with the help of NFC. However, at that time the application was supported only by a limited number of smartphone models of the Nexus brand. To use the service, it was necessary to register a Citi MasterCard or a Google Card. In general, the product was inconvenient, required a lot of actions, and did not gain popularity. The service was replaced by Android Pay, which was built into the operating system, eliminating the need to download additional apps. In addition, this product was easy to use and quickly triggered when brought to the reader.
However, Google Wallet continued to function, but as a tool for sending money through the entry of a phone number or e-mail. However, after a while, the functions of the service became extremely limited, and then the developers decided to combine its capabilities with Android Pay. The latter transformed into the more famous Google Pay in 2018, and both contactless payments and peer-to-peer online payments could be made through it. With the latest update, the app has even more features, making it a great tool for mobile financial transactions.
